Its always fun when Grandparents come!

We had a great time with Grandma and Grandpa Peschio. They stopped by for a few days on their way to Florida. We went to the Jeff Davis house. He was the President of the Confederates. The property was destroyed and the house was pretty destroyed. They were doing work on it when we were there. It had just opened back up in June...Almost 3 years after Hurricane Katrina destroyed it. The actual house was very cool and huge. It was amazing to hear and see some of the things they did back then. One of the stories was that the cook would have one of the kids...not sure if it was the cooks kids or Jeff Davis's kids....take the food up to the house. The actual kitchen was detached from the house. But she would have the kid carrying up the food whistle to let everyone know it was time to eat. She also did this so the kid wouldn't sample any of the food on his way up the stairs! What a smart lady! Anyways, if anybody wants to come and visit, we can go and see this. I thought it was very cool and it was a great lesson in history. Also, we went on a boat ride. It was an eduacational tour to show how the shrimp is caught. They described the nets and why they do some of the things that are involved with catching the shrimp. The kids favorite was the tickler. It is a metal chain that causes the shrimp to come up out of the mud and go into the net. They caught all kinds of things, squid, flounder, catfish, shrimp, crabs, a lid to a paper towel dispenser, jellyfish, hogchoker( this one he stuck to the side of the fish tank he was placing "the catch" in), lizard fish, an eel, and a bunch of other cool looking fish. I didn't get pictures on the boat, but Grandpa Tom did. We had a great time and we were glad we got to visit with the Peschios. We are looking forward to our trip in December to go and visit them in Florida!
